  • Changes in public services responsibilities

With Sue Erickson’s reassignment to the Peabody Library, we are working through reassigning some of Sue’s system-wide public services responsibilities.  She will continue to oversee assessment efforts and serve as the data services librarian including oversight responsibility for GIS functions.

Tracy Primich has graciously agreed to take on many of the library access issues which so closely relate to the concerns of the Circulation and Access Committee which she chairs.  She has also volunteered to serve as Chair of the Research Services Committee for an interim period.

Chris Benda will have responsibility for the Electronic Classroom.  Pat Johnson will be the contact for marketing/orientation materials.  Lisa Shipman will work with VUPD on the security guard service management, in conjunction with the libraries.  Interlibrary Loan will report to Flo Wilson.

  • Search Committee Appointed for Senior Associate Dean of Libraries Position

Dean Connie Dowell announces the appointment of a search committee for the Senior Associate Dean of Libraries position resulting from Flo Wilson?s pending retirement this summer.   The search committee members are:

Jody Combs, Assistant Dean of Libraries , Chair

Deborah Brooks, Manager of Operations, Walker Management Library

Paula Covington, Latin American and Iberian Bibliographer

Sue Erickson, Interim Director of the Peabody Library

Timothy P. McNamara, Associate Provost for Faculty

In addition, Lisa Shipman, Director of Administrative Services, will assist the committee.  This committee is charged with managing the process of identifying the very best candidate for our Libraries and our University.   To efficiently manage the search, the committee is intentionally small.

It is clear that many persons and groups within the libraries and on campus will have important contributions to make to the process.  Dean Dowell believes that library staff will be an integral part of this search, and is building into the process a Staff Representation Group, along with other opportunities for broader staff participation.   When on-campus candidates are selected and dates are scheduled, this group will check their schedules, and members who can meet with all candidates will do so.  The members of this group will spend extra time with each of the candidates at a lunch or coffee.  They will also be asked to attend the open event with each candidate.  They are representatives of our outstanding staff and will help us to recruit a top candidate and will be a critical part of selecting a new Senior Associate Dean.  They will give feedback to both the search committee and the Dean.  Members of the Staff Representation Group are:

    Peggy Earheart, Annex

    Ronee Francis, Special Collections

    Susan Bell, Technical Services

    MAT Trotter, Divinity Library

    Holling Smith-Borne, Music Library

    Deborah Lilton, Central Library

    Juanita Murray, Special Collections

    Hilary Craiglow, Management Library

The Dean is grateful to all those who have agreed to take on these responsibilities and especially to Jody Combs for agreeing to chair the search.
