MAP CATALOGING

Local Map Cataloging Facts:

  1. The majority of all cataloged maps for the library are acquired by the Science Library and are housed in the Science Library Map Room.
  2. We only began cataloging and classifying maps in LC during the late 1980's. (So the Science Library has a significant number of maps that have never been officially cataloged.).
  3. After maps are cataloged, attach a printout of the cataloging record to the map and circle the LC call number on the printout. Do NOT send the cataloged map to Marking. Deliver the cataloged map to Science. Science Library will attach a call number label to the map. (Refer to “Non-Book Cataloging Procedures”).
