BOOKSETS
Analyzing a set after it has been ordered on one record.
If the decision (in consultation with the subject bibliographer) is made to analyze a bookset that has been ordered as a set after one or more pieces have arrived, follow these procedures:
Again in consultation with the bibliographer, decide on whether the set will be classed separately or together.
Classed separately :
Bring analytic records for the individual book titles in as new records (we refer to these analytic records as babies). Do not overlay the record for the set that has the order attached to it (we refer to this as the momma record).
Decide whether to shadow the momma record.

Shadow : If there is no need to display the momma to the public, shadow at the title level.
Do not shadow : There may be some cases where the momma record will be useful to the public and holdings will be added.
In this case, the momma record will need to be cataloged.
Create holdings statement with call number in |h Shelved separately and a note in |z For circulation status search by individual author or title.
Transfer the individual item records from the momma to the babies. You may need to create a dummy call and copy for the momma. (no real barcode attached)
The call record remaining on the momma should have as the call number: Shelved separately
Add a 952 note to babies (bib records for the individual titles) that states: rec'd on [Acorn no. of the momma]
Make sure there is an authority record for the set . Create one if there is not. The elements of the authority record to watch for are:
In the fixed field, Series b. 644 f
645 t
646 s
Add a bookset/series statement to the babies (440 or 490/8xx combination)
Classed together:
Bring analytic records in as new. Do not overlay the momma.
Never shadow the momma. The momma record is the authoritative place to find the classed together call number.
Transfer the individual item records from the momma to the babies. You may need to create a dummy call and copy for the momma.
In the call record of the momma, the call number should be the base call number (without any volume information) for the set.
Add a 952 note to the momma with the volume designation to be used in the call number caption. Examples:
952 CAPTION: v.
952 CAPTION: Abt. Bd. T.
952 CAPTION: v. pt.
952 CAPTION: nr.
Add a 952 note to the babies which states: : rec'd on [Acorn no. of the momma]
