Creating Documents for the TS Website

From Dreamweaver:

1. Open the template for the directory you wish to use -- CAT, OS, Preservation, Shared, etc.
2. Backspace over the title line of the template and type the title of the document.
3. Backspace over the Narrative line in the template and type the text of the procedure.
4. Add your initials and the date at the end of the procedure.
5. Choose Modify, Page Properties from the Toolbar and fill in the title of your procedure. Do not fill in any other fields, such as Background or Links. All of these are already set by the style sheet.
6. If you want subheadings within the document itself, choose Format header 2 from the Properties toolbar. (header 1 and header 2 are already defined by the stylesheet).
7. Save your new procedure, using SAVE AS (not SAVE or you will overwrite the template!!!) being sure that you are still in the correct directory.
8. Link the new procedure to the correct page, using relative links -- generally the filename only.
9. Check your work by looking at the techserv site with the IE browser to be sure that links work and the page looks ok.
10. Note: if files are in a subdirectory, and not the main directory for each team, links to the stylesheet may need adjustment.

From Word:

1. Open the template for the directory you wish to use -- CAT, OS, Preservation, Shared, etc.
2. Open the Word document you wish to convert. Higher versions of Word documents may need to be saved as text with line breaks or rich text to remove excess formatting.
3. Copy and paste the Word document into the template in the Narrative section of the template.
4. Cut the title of the procedure from the Narrative section and paste it into the Title section of the template.
5. Choose Modify, Page Properties from the Toolbar and change the title from your template title to the real title of your procedure. Do not fill in any other fields, such as Background or Links. All of these are already set by the style sheet.
6. You may need to remove extraneous font tags from your document. The font and h1 and h2 tags are already defined by the stylesheet. Keep extra formatting to a minimum.
7. Save your new procedure, using SAVE AS (not SAVE or you will overwrite the template!!!) being sure that you are in the correct directory.
8. Link the new procedure to the correct page, using relative links -- generally the filename only.
9. Check your work by looking at the techserv site withthe IE browser to be sure that links work and the page looks ok.
10. Note: if files are in a subdirectory, and not the main directory for each team, links to the stylesheet may need adjustment.
