Glossary of Sirsi Commands
useful for Serial Control Records
Create Checkin
This command creates a specific checkin record for an issue of a
serial (especially useful for irregular titles in which no
predictive pattern can be established)It is used if future checkin
records have not been generated with the CREATE CONTROL or
EDIT CONTROL command.
Create Control
This command allows you to create the serial control record based
on information found in the catalog and your input. Detailed
control records allow you to predict when issues should arrive at
the library and forms the basis for claiming through reports.
Display 1 Checkin
This command displays one or more checkin records and allows you to
see the whole history of issues expected and received by the
library. This is useful for checking a set of predictive records
that have been created through the serial control record.
Display 1 Control
This command displays brief information about a serials control
record.
Display 2 Control
This command displays more detailed information about the serials
control record. It allows you to see binding information, calendar
information and comments.
Display 1 Item
This command allows you to check how holdings information displays
to the public.
Display 2 Item
This command allows you to see all of the Serial Control ID or
ID’s for a title if not already known.
Use to obtain Vendor ID
First, choose the correct library (Law, Medical, VuProcess). Touch
the Order with cursor (Sirsi remembers it to the next command) and
DISPLAY1 ORDER to see the Vendor ID for a particular title if
Vendor is not known.
Display 1 Order
Use to see the Vendor ID for a title if not already known. Use the
Order ID from DISPLAY 2 ITEM.
Display 1 Vendor
Use this command to find the Vendor ID when you know the name of
the Vendor for a particular title. In order to claim, the Vendor
ID must be in the serial control record.
Display 2 Vendor
This command displays detailed information about a vendor which
includes addresses, commands and a list of all orders placed with
that vendor for that fiscal cycle.
Duplicate Control
Only in --v. 8-- This command allows you to duplicate a serial
control record.
Edit Checkin
This command allows you to edit information on checkin records for
issues and copies expected, received, and claimed.
Use for Supplements, Indexes, and Special Issues
If a checkin record has already been received, additional
information may be recorded on the checkin record using this
command to record receipt of supplements, indexes, or special
issues without automatically updating the holdings in the bib
record. (Holdings must be updated manually using EDIT ITEM).
Edit Control
This command allows you to edit a serials control record which
includes generating future checkin records. You can also add
comments to the control record which will appear when you use
the RECEIVE ITEM command. When the pattern for a serial changes,
use this command to edit the control record.
Edit Item
This command allows you to edit holdings information in the
bibliographic record, specifically the 853, 863, 866, 867, and
868 fields for patterns that require editing of the bib record
after each receipt.
Receive Item
This command allows you to checkin a copy or copies of a serial
issue. May also be used also for receiving occasional non-predicted
issues such as supplements, special issues, and indexes (holdings
must be manually updated using EDIT ITEM).
Remove Checkin
This command removes a single checkin record or a range of checkin
records beginning with a particular checkin number. Use this
command when the pattern for a serial changes to remove checkins
from the old pattern.
Remove Control
This command removes a single control record and all associated
checkin records. Removing checkin records that have already been
received does not remove holdings information from the MARC record;
therefore, use EDIT ITEM to remove unwanted holdings information
from the bib record.
