Administration
and Staff
Construction
began on the OUL offices. Celia Walker will move up to the office next to
Marshall Breeding and Roberta Winjum will move into Celia's office after construction
is completed in January.
Work continued on compiling the
ARL Statistics submissions for 2005/2006. Roberta generated the collection
statistics, the library directors reviewed the data needs related to electronic
services and collections; Julie Blagojevich and Flo worked on gathering other
needed figures. Sue Davis worked on gathering the Preservation Statistics.
Administrative
Services
Several
staff members attended the new employee orientation program organized by Lisa
Shipman and Ava Wilson on December 18.
Public
Relations/Communication
The
Staff News published 47 articles in December: 19% were committee minutes and
agendas; 13% were articles about staff accomplishments and the balance were
general items and monthly reports. For 2006, a total of 757 articles were
published.

The Central, Divinity, Science
and Engineering, and Music Libraries jointly funded a subscription to the
Chicago Manual of
Style
Public Services
Jacob
Thornton did a presentation on the basics of Geographic Information Systems
for the staff of the Science and Engineering Library. Progress continues to
be made on obtaining an ESRI GIS Site License for the Library; Flo and Jacob
met with the representative from Procurement Services and several staff in
Campus Planning who use ArcInfo regularly. Jacob also completed an Element
K Dreamweaver course and will begin updating the GIS page on the website shortly.
The Committee on Undergraduate
Information Literacy (CUIL) representatives met with Frank Wcislo, Dean of
the Commons, to discuss how information literacy proposals might fit in with
the further development of the Visions course for all freshmen and the development
of programming and curriculum in the Freshman Commons. He was very encouraging
about the need to incorporate such a program. The CUIL met as a whole to draft
a set of goals for the committee.
Planning for conducting a seating
sweep (sampling tally of actual physical library use across the system) got
underway with Julie Blagojevich and Flo meeting to discuss a project team
and its charge.
Technology
Projects and Activities
Jody
Combs met with MIS and ITS to discuss current status and design for OAK support
and with MIS and Paul Gherman to discuss budgetary needs for OAK development.
Jody facilitated a final draft of license agreement for Primo project.
And held 3 conference calls with Ex Libris' Primo development team: coordinate
initial installation of code to VU servers for checks, configuration, and
beta testing and he held a conference call with Microsoft representatives
to discuss potential support for portal development projects. He hosted a
plenary meeting with all current Primo project teams to discuss development
of beta testing plans.
Meetings,
Activities and Professional Development
Paul Gherman attended
CNI and the Advisory Board on the Records of Congress. It was his last meeting
with this group. He also attended the ASERL meeting in Atlanta and reported
on the North American Storage Trust. And he participated in the annual board
meeting by phone of the Television Archive, one of Brewster Kahle's efforts.
Flo
participated in an OCLC conference call to discuss the needs for data and
reporting for implementing a virtual storage concept.
Celia
Walker attended a workshop on usability studies and web design held by the
Web Spiders.
Jody
Combs attended CNI Fall 2006 Task Force Briefing in Washington, D.C.
