management software programs. Chris Benda led the discussion and several attendees
have since been getting up to speed on EndNote Web and Zotero.
Jacob Thornton taught an Introduction to Data Ferret to 4 Library Staff
members (Sue was one of the attendees). He participated in the VUMC LifeFlight
Ride-Along program.

feed project.

project.

software with Art and Art History department. He also had aseparate interview
with the system engineer/designer.
Annex
Paul
and members of Special Collections had several meetings with Campus Planning
and Harold Thompson, the architect on the Archives Annex project, to begin
developing plans for the building's reconditioning and modification.
Interlibrary Loan
and Faculty Delivery Services
Borrowing for Vanderbilt users remained brisk as the semester progressed,
with over 1,283 requests filled (754 loans and 529 copies) in November. Lending
to other libraries also stayed high, with over 1,649 requests filled (1,033
loans and 616 copies).
Business continues to accelerate, as Faculty Delivery
Service delivered approximately 431 items from the Vanderbilt collections
in November (205 loans and 226 scanned copies), in addition to 116 interlibrary
loans that were delivered to faculty offices. Several faculty surrogate user
accounts have been configured to take advantage of the service, and we are
working to make it possible beginning Spring Semester for users to directly
register or modify their surrogate accounts online.
Copyright Clearing
Service
Spring semester ClassPak orders
took the fore as they began to arrive in larger numbers. With most clearance
requests for Fall Semester electronic reserves already handled, the focus
for them shifted to processing invoices and follow-ups for permissions.
Meetings,
Activities and Professional Development
Paul and
Bill Hook spoke at a CLIR/Emory symposium on ETANA on November 2.
Holling Smith-Borne, Steve Nordstrom and Paul met with the Barbershop Quartet Society about their sheet music collection on the 9th. Paul also attended a NALA board meeting that day.
Paul
attended the Ex Libris Directors Symposium in Boston on the 14th and 15th , and the ASERL fall meeting in New Orleans on the 27th and 28th.
Marymae
Jansson attended the Center for Intellectual Property online workshop "DMCA,
P2P Filesharing, and Campus Responses" (November 5-16, 2007).
Celia
and Marshall, along with staff from Special Collections, spoke to members
of the southeastern chapter of the Art Libraries Society of North America
(ARLIS) on art-related projects taking place at Vanderbilt. Paul gave the
introduction for the event. Our thanks go to Yvonne Boyer, president-elect
of the chapter, for organizing this event. Merry Balthrop assisted with the
event.
Celia
served as a peer reviewer for a manuscript proposal for UT Press. She also
completed an IMLS 6-week course on outcome based assessment. A brown bag by
the library's grants panel (Marshall, Lisa and Celia) will be forthcoming
to discuss this system of assessment as well as grant writing opportunities.
Celia
helped to scan and create metadata for one of the library's rarest resources,
the James Robertson Papers. The project is part of the Volunteer Voices IMLS
grant in which the library is participating. The papers, which detail Robertson's
(1742-1814) correspondence with Andrew Jackson, Governor William Blount, George
Washington and chiefs of the Chicasaws and Choctaws as he worked to bring
peace to the soon-to-be state of Tennessee, will be made available through
the Volunteer Voices website to students and teachers.
