Scope of Responsibility
The Library Technology Team of Resource Services supports the
computer systems and networks of the Jean and Alexander Heard Library.
Our specific responsibilities include:
- All aspects of managing the Sirsi Unicorn integrated library system
- WebCat: The Web-based online catalog
- All functional modules: circulation, reserves, cataloging, authorities,
serials control, and reports.
- Supplemental databases:
- Silverplatter ERL server: access through WebSpirs, PC-Spirs, WinSpirs
- CD-ROM servers (3 LanCD servers)
- Access to FirstSearch databases

- Netware Servers
- Network Printers
- Backup systems
- Pegasus Mail
- Network communications hardware and cabling
- Remote network to the Library Annex (2 Cisco routers)
- Access to OCLC Prism via TLP
- Access to the Caravan campus network and to the Internet
- Maintenance of the Library Web Servers
- Development and support of databases in Paradox
- Library computing
- Desktop computers and monitors
- Printers
- Barcode Readers
- Application software: Sirsi InfoVIEW clients, Web browsers, Microsoft Word,
Excel, Paradox, Access, Lotus 1-2-3, etc
- Access control
- Library access turnstiles
- Library patron information
- Technology training:

- We assist the libraries in exploring and assessing new technologies.
