LITS --- Unicorn 2002 Upgrade Schedule

The Unicorn 2002 upgrade includes changes to both the server and client software used to access and manage Acorn.
ACORN will be unavailable on the morning of August 2 from 3:15am - 6:00am.

Friday, August 2 (upgrade details)

3:15am ACORN down for 3 hours

6:00am Acorn Backup Server brought into production. Acorn's URL, http://acorn.library.vanderbilt.edu will now point to the backup server and staff will be able to continue work with some exceptions. Staff will NOT need to upgrade Workflows at this time. In general, during this period, the following activities CAN be done:

  • Circulation (check-in, check-out, reports, etc.)
  • Cataloging (creating records, editing records, importing records through smartport.)
  • Authorities (deleting, and editing)
  • Acquisitions (editing and creating records manually --no scripts will run.)

Staff CANNOT perform activities that require scripting utilities. These include the use of passport and automatic loading of records from gobi, bna, and oclc. Once we have restored full functionality on the production server (Monday, August 5, 6:00am), we will load these records. This will probably occur before 8:00 am on the 5th.

Saturday, August 3 (upgrade details)

Staff continue using ACORN with restrictions noted above.

Sunday, August 4: (upgrade details)

Staff continue using ACORN with restrictions noted above.

Monday, August 5 (upgrade details)

6:00 am ACORN ready for full production

Staff can now return to using ACORN with no restrictions. Workflows clients will be upgraded automatically from the NAL window when launching the Workflows software. Staff in Biomedical, Law, and Management libraries will follow alternative upgrade paths. Please contact LITS if you have any questions about this process.
