Status of the Re-indexing project
The indexing process is now complete. The process is described in the document: http://staffweb.library.vanderbilt.edu/libtech/updates/index-2000.html
WorkFlows Transition and Training
Kim Battles was asked to come to consult with Vanderbilt Library staff on Feb 22 - 24 concerning WorkFlows implementation issues for circulation and to work with LTT staff regarding technical issues. She met with the Circulation Workgroup for two half-days. She was able to answer many of their questions and to take note of issues in WorkFlows where additional improvements might be made by SIRSI.
Kim also had extensive meetings with LTT staff where we looked in detail at Unicorn index and record structures. We talked about issues regarding the re-indexing process that was underway at that time.
The Circulation workgroup indicates that all circulation units will be using WorkFlows completely by the Fall of 2000. Many of the Circulation desks will migrate before that, and many are currently using both clients.
Sirsi is in the late stages of development for the Wizards for the Acquisitions module. We are also in the group that will be testing the Acquisitions Wizards. We should have these working on the AcornTest server relatively soon. We will be testing internally in LTT as well as working with interested staff in the libraries. The first set of Acquisition wizards involve the book accounting features of Acquisitions.
Unicorn Update Schedule
The 99.4 Release of Unicorn is scheduled to be available for production use in March 2000.The next major release of Unicorn will be label Unicorn 2000 which is scheduled for production relase by the end of July 2000.
Unicorn 2001 will be released in November 2000.
LTT is currently working with SIRSI as a Beta Test partner. Anne Laws is the primary coordinator within LTT for this testing. She may ask for participation and assistance from other library staff for some module-specific testing.
Unicorn Enhancement Process
SIRSI is abandoning the traditional enhancement ballot process in favor of interactive Web forums where Sirsi customers can discuss among themselves improvements that they would like to see implemented in Unicorn.Individual accounts and passwords will be needed by the staff that access these SIRSI Enhancements Forums. Our current thinking is that all participants in the Acorn workgroups will be authorized to read and post messages to their respective forums. LTT will monitor all the forums.
The SIRSI Users Group International has officially endorsed this new enhancement process.

Web Browser
WebTrends: tool for analyzing use of Library Web servers
LTT has purchased a copy of WebTrends, which is a utility that analyzes the use logs from a Web server and creates reports about how those resources are used. We hope that this will be useful in learning more about how users take advantage of the Web-based resources we provide.
Campus Internet Access
Recently increased from 16 to 24 MB/second.During large parts of the day, the Internet connection operates at peak capacity.
145 mb/second bandwidth available. Only a small fraction is used. Internet2 is used only for direct communication with other Internet2 participants.
