Unicorn Hardware Upgrade

Utilization of storage capacity on the Acorn production server is consistently running at between 87% and 92% . In order to provide additional storage space LITS will upgrade the storage capacity of the Acorn production server beginning on December 26th. The system will be unavailable 3:00am to 9:30am on the 26th while Acorn is moved to the backup server. After 9:30am the backup server will be available for normal operations with some limitations (see table below). Once the upgrade is complete, Acorn will have 200 GB of storage, three times it's current capacity. It will also run a new version of the operating system which is required by the next
version of Unicorn. LITS plans to move Acorn back to the production server no later that December 31st, but will send out an email when this is complete. Please contact LITS if you have any questions.

In general, during this period, the following activities CAN be done:

  • Circulation (check-in, check-out, reports, etc.)
  • Cataloging (creating records, editing records, importing records through smartport.)
  • Authorities (deleting, and editing)
  • Acquisitions (editing and creating records manually --no scripts will run.)

Staff CANNOT perform activities that require scripting utilities. These include the use of passport and automatic loading of records from gobi, bna, and oclc. Once we have restored full functionality on the production server (????, date, time), we will load these records. This will probably occur [before 8:00 am on the 5th.]
