CSprint/VUprint window doesn't appear

CSprint/VUprint pop-up window doesn't list patron's print job

Workstation is frozen or functioning slowly after trying to print a job

CSprint/VUprint pop-up window doesn't appear when a patron prints something

Do this to fix the problem:

  1. Click on the START menu.
  2. Find the CSprint client software and invoke it.
  3. A pop-up window should appear, displaying the waiting print jobs.

OR

  1. Look for a small printer icon on the system tray near the time display. This printer icon is different from the larger VUprint icon.
  2. Double-click on the icon, select print jobs, and choose Document > Cancel.
  3. Re-submit the job to a printer with csprint1 as part of its name (e.g., PBDYLIB-SingleSided on csprint1).

OR

Restart the workstation if the above steps don't work.

CSprint/VUprint pop-up window (and/or the Print Release Station) does not list any print jobs, even though the patron has sent a job

Do this to fix the problem:

With the CSprint window open, press the F5 key. This should refresh the CSprint window and show the jobs ready to print.

If the patron's job doesn't appear, make sure that the patron sent the job to a csprint printer.

  1. If there is a small printer icon on the system tray near the time display, the patron may have sent the job to a non-csprint printer. The small printer icon is different from the larger VUprint icon.
  2. Double-click on the icon, select print jobs, and choose Document > Cancel.
  3. Re-submit the job to a printer with csprint1 as part of its name (e.g., PBDYLIB-SingleSided on csprint1).

If the job still doesn't show up in the window, see if it shows up on the Print Release Station. If it does, have the patron authenticate from there.

You may want to restart the workstation if you're not able to get any jobs to show up in the CSprint window.

"Could not connect to a CSPrint Server. Check you system resources and network connectivity."

Do this to fix the problem:

  1. Make sure this is happening on all public workstations. If it seems to be happening on only one workstation, restart that workstation.
  2. Wait a few minutes. The problem may resolve itself.
  3. If the problem continues for more than a few minutes, call LITS (2-7073) and report it.

CSprint/VUprint pop-up window doesn't appear when a patron prints something

If the user clicks print in an application, and the pop-up window never appears, one of the following problems may be occurring.

1. The CSprint client has been closed. There should be an icon in the system tray in the lower right corner of the desktop, which can be opened to show the CSprint queue window. If that icon is gone, and the pop-up window is not appearing, the client has been closed. NOTE: Print jobs submitted while the client is closed ARE STILL in the queue. Restarting the client is all that is needed.

2. These symptoms may occur if a previous user has attempted to bypass the VUprint system by selecting another printer they believe will print directly to the printer (e.g., Public Printer #1). The VUprint system locks the printers to only accept print jobs from specified print queues. Attempting to print to another printer on the public workstation will place a print job in that queue, but the printer will not accept or process the job. That leaves the workstation perpetually attempting to submit the print job. Eventually this will consume all of the computer's processing power and the system will appear to be frozen.

CSprint/VUprint pop-up window (and/or the Print Release Station) does not list any print jobs, even though the patron has sent a job

A job may not show up in the CSprint window when a user has attempted to bypass the VUprint system by selecting another printer they believe will print directly to the printer (e.g., Public Printer #1). The VUprint system locks the printers to only accept print jobs from specified print queues. Attempting to print to another printer on the public workstation will place a print job in that queue, but the printer will not accept or process the job. That leaves the workstation perpetually attempting to submit the print job. Eventually this will consume all of the computer's processing power and the system appears to be frozen.

Problems with the client can also cause it to fail to show jobs that have correctly been sent to a csprint printer. Refreshing the client (by pressing the F5 key when the CSprint window is the selected window) should cause the jobs to appear. If they do not appear in the CSprint window, they may appear on the Print Release Station and can be authorized there.

Patron gets a "Transaction Denied" message when they try to print

The "Transaction Denied" message is a very discrete message at the bottom of the CSprint pop-up window. If the user clicks on "print" and enters their username and password, then clicks OK, but the pop-up window does NOT go away, it is likely that there is a message in the bottom left corner of the window that says "Transaction denied".

This message may appear for one of several reasons.

1. The username/password combination was entered incorrectly. A typo in either field would generate this error message. If this is the cause, simply click on "print" again, reenter the username and password correctly, and the job should be released.

2. There may be insufficient funds in the users account to cover the print job. If reentering the username / password still yields the error message, it is likely lack of money in the account.

"Could not connect to a CSPrint Server. Check you system resources and network connectivity."

Typically, this error appears when there's a connectivity problem. Sometimes, these connectivity problems resolve themselves; sometimes, they require the intervention of LITS.
