Holiday Policy

Technical Services

Vanderbilt recognizes the following specific holidays:
· New Year's Day (Jan. 1)
· Memorial Day (4th Monday in May)
· Independence Day (July 4th)
· Labor Day (1st Monday in September)
· Thanksgiving Day (4th Thursday in November)
· Christmas Eve (December 24th)
· Christmas Day (December 25th)

(See Human Resources Policy #HR-006, http://hr.vanderbilt.edu/policies/hr-006.pdf, for University guidelines)

There may be times when some of the Libraries are open on some holidays or the days that the University observes as the official holiday, and assistance from Technical Services will be available when feasible. As a general rule TS will be open with at least a skeletal staff on holidays when the General Library Building (GLB) is open. When the GLB is closed, all TS areas will be closed.

For the Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day holidays as well as any official holiday not celebrated on the actual holiday day, TS will be minimally staffed if the GLB is open. Hours of availability may be modified to coincide with the GLB hours. For the remaining Vanderbilt holidays (Jan. 1, the 4th Thursday in November, Dec. 24, and Dec. 25), Technical Services will be closed. Only under a workload emergency would Technical Services consider opening on any of these 4 holidays. For anyone to work in any of the TS areas on any holiday, at least two people should be working in the same area as a security measure.

As some teams in Technical Services may require minimal staffing while others may not, it may be an option to close one team within TS while others remain open. Supervisors may also work with staff to make additional arrangements as needed.

For the convenience of libraries that are open on Memorial Day, Independence Day, or Labor Day, the minimal Technical Services staff will do their best to assist with any urgent Technical Services needs.
