Members present: Susan Bell, Nancy Boggess-Korekach, Zora Breeding, Sue Davis, Mary Ellen Wilson, and Roberta Winjum. Peggy Earheart was absent.
1) Roberta announced that the TS Work Flow Task Force had approved the design of the Web Task Force's proposed new web pages, and work would now continue with their design.
2) EEBO Records (Early English Books Online): It is our preference to load these records prior to the reindexing that will occur over the first weekend in August. We have received sample records, and they look "perfect". We are now waiting for the records. On receipt, they will be added with both Internet and Central as the Library, and will be processed through Marcive. There will be approximately 60,000 in the first batch. We expect over 125,000 overall. We will further investigate whether we need to update our holdings on OCLC, and how this needs to be done.
3) Inventory: The inventory records are ready to load. Again, we intend to load the DLC records prior to the above mentioned re-indexing. There were 1190 DLC records, 8779 non-DLC, and 2078 unmatched records. The catalogers are currently reviewing these records, and we think that they will be acceptable to load. The inventory Task Force will need to be reconvened to determine how the rest of the records should be loaded, and what to do with the unmatched titles. Both the new TF chair and the membership of the new TF is currently under discussion.
4) Serials Solutions: We have agreed to be a beta test site for this product, in our Test file, using Proquest and Lexis-Nexis. We will review the records, then load into Production. We are currently waiting for Serials Solutions to complete our profile and send the records. Not all Divisions have expressed an interest in participating in Serial Solutions.
Since these e-journal records will be separate from the paper, this will mean that not all journals are handled the same. We agreed that this would require significant "cleanup" of the records.
5) LOCKSS Project (Lots Of Copies Keep Stuff Safe): We have joined many other institutions as a beta test site for this project. The goal is to archive full text content of electronic journals in several locations to provide access in perpetuity. For more information, see http://lockss.stanford.edu/
6) Microfiche labeling: Roberta updated us on the status of this project. It is currently On Hold while we continue to work out the details.
7) Unicorn Upgrade: The upgrade is currently scheduled for Friday, August 2nd. While the upgrade is running, libraries will have access to Acorn 3. LITS will be sending out a more detailed message regarding what may or may not be done while the upgrade is running. In the meantime, Roberta has advised that staff plan for activities on August 2nd that do not require editing Acorn. Nancy also also announced that another rebuild is planned for around Thanksgiving.
8) Updates:
NBK: has created bib and authority formats web pages, made changes in the FULL display in WebCat (since the ALL display has been removed), created a SCI-DVD holdings code, removed obsolete item types from WorkFlows, and loaded 58 records for Documenting the American South. She will be working on a project to look at alternatives to Passport.
SB: LeeAnn reports that 2003 ed. Tennessee textbooks have begun to arrive (approx 200 boxes), so Susan is now receiving the 2002 textbooks to process (approx 30 boxes). Denise is searching these titles. Susan also mentioned that, since the elimination of UKM records from the PromptCat profiles, she is receiving far more books with NO copy. It was agreed that RSIG would continue to monitor the UKM issue.
MEW: The fiscal year rollovers went well, with the help of LITS. With Bryan's move to Cataloging, OS now has a position open; the paperwork is being processed to fill this position. News reports indicate that UPS has reached an agreement with the Teamster's Union, avoiding a potential strike at the end of this month.
SD: B&M is fully staffed again, after miscellaneous absences, and there are no backlogs in Marking. Music is interested in using CATME for marking their materials; Sue is going with Music staff to Belmont to view how they use CATME for their marking process. Sue has also been investigating the use of heat-less labels from Vernon. The book repair database did not migrate properly to 2003, LITS is working with Preservation on the problem. Preservation also continues to help in the Special Collections project of sorting and cleaning Education materials.
ZB: Michael Scott begins on Monday, Bryan Kurowski began last Monday, Ann Ercelawn is due to return on Monday. Books are heavy in Don's and Susan's subject areas, normal elsewhere. Yuh-Fen is working on the 100 volume set of Chinese books recently received. Cataloging is working on a project of electronic books from CogNet; Student Joel is adding urls, 506, and 830 fields to the print records that correspond with the titles, and notes that the electronic versions are "read only" titles.
Our next RSIG meeting will be August 21, in the Goldberg Room.
