RSIG MINUTES 11/18/99
PRESENT: Susan Bell, Zora Breeding, Sue Davis, Mary Ellen Wilson, Sylvia Martin
HELGUERA GIFTS: Sue asked Zora if catalogers needed any lead time before return of the Helguera books from their cleaning process. Sue said that she would probably have 2 weeks advance notice of their return. Zora said that 2 weeks should be sufficient time. ACTION: Sylvia will ask Peg Earheart if 2 weeks notice is sufficient time for Annex activity.
RUSH BOOKS: Sue asked if there was any reason for the large increase in RUSH books coming to Binding/Marking. Mary Ellen replied that there is no obvious reason.
SPEED CAT: Since verifiers stopped doing speed cat of firm orders several weeks ago, the copy cat shelves in cataloging are full. Mary Ellen noted that with help from copy cats, a significant reduction has been made in the backlog of firm orders. Mary Ellen will ask verifiers to resume speed cat of firm orders at the beginning of Dec. Zora suggested that verifiers look for categories of material that could be easily transferred to copy cat for speed cat in order to obtain a reasonable balance of activity between these 2 areas.
SIRSI VISIT: Both Mary Ellen and Zora commented that meeting with Kim Battles was informative and beneficial. Kim listened to staff and reassured them of concerns with WorkFlows. She seemed responsive and indicated that she would oversee work on some enhancements as well as report other nagging problems to appropriate Sirsi staff.
APPROVAL COMPARATIVE STUDY: Sylvia distributed an Excel chart that computes data for the 3 categories of approvals under study. Some of the computations appeared to be off. Sylvia mentioned that she had inserted some rows, and perhaps these additions could be causing the error in calculations. [Sue has since worked with the formula, and the additional rows were the cause of the problem. The computations are now correct.] Sylvia asked for suggestions as to what information should be included in the final report that she will write in Dec. The chart will be included with the report.
NEXT MEETING: Wed., 12/1, 2:00, Baker
