RSIG MINUTES 11/4/99
PRESENT: Susan Bell, Zora Breeding, Sue Davis, Sylvia Martin, Monica Sanchez, Mary Ellen Wilson
WORKING COPIES: Monica noted that formerly a separate record was used for working copies, and then the record was suppressed. Should this practice be continued? DECISION: If there is already a record, use it for a working copy; assign a separate call, and shadow that call.
SPINE LABELS: Sue described a new program that Marshall has developed for printing labels. It will be a time-saver for labeling staff. This program does not have to go through ACORN. In addition to the location and call no., it also prints the bar code on the label. There needs to be a small adjustment to the spine label location that is put in the COMMENTS field whenever there are 2 lines of location information, e.g., LAT IN REF <br> CEN. ACTION: Sue will test this "fix", and will let others know when to begin to use this new format for location information. [Sue has since tested, and staff who enter location information into the COMMENTS field should begin to use this new format immediately.]
SERIAL HOLDINGS PROBLEM: Mary Ellen reported that a receiver noticed that the holdings for Chemical Abstracts have disappeared from the Sirsi record. A similar problem has been discussed on the Sirsi list. ACTION: Dale Poulter and Nancy Boggess-Korekach will look into this problem.
WHO'S WHO: Zora reported that John Haar would like a URL added to all Who's Who titles in the database, and for records to be brought in for those titles that we do not now hold, but that will be available electronically. Zora said that the catalogers are not in favor of doing this, in part, because of maintenance involved. John also mentioned that all post 1985 holdings of Who's Who will be sent to the Annex. Mary Ellen noted that some print copies are being cancelled. ACTION: Zora will offer some options to John for noting the URL for Who's Who titles.
IRIS PROJECT: Zora mentioned that she had received a memo from John Haar, informing that IRIS libraries are beginning to transfer backfiles to the IRIS library that has been designated as the primary holder of titles in certain subject areas. UT is sending to VUL their backfile of Mississippi Statistical Abstracts. ACTION: Zora will check with Flo as to how this material should be accounted for statistically.
EBSCO INVOICE: Mary Ellen announced that Ebsco's annual renewal invoice for the amount of $900,000 has been received. Posting of this invoice will involve a tremendous amount of staff time. The possibility of sharing staff from other RS teams to assist with this project was discussed.
SHELF-READY COMPARATIVE STUDY: Sylvia distributed a chart with data that she has collected on the comparison of outsourced vs. in-house processing of BNA approval books. Various aspects of the chart were discussed. Two or three more weeks worth of data will be added to the chart, and then a report written to detail the results of the comparative study.
NEXT MEETING: Thursday, 11/18/99, (note day change!), 2:00, Baker
