RSIG MINUTES
4/12/00
PRESENT: Susan Bell, Zora Breeding, Sue Davis, Peg Earheart, Sylvia Martin, Monica Sanchez, Mary Ellen Wilson
OFFLINE RETURN UPDATE: It takes 7 days for our TJC symbol to appear on a record that we have used after it is received at OCLC. Dale Poulter has been working with OCLC to fix a small problem with nightly transfer of our records.
WOMEN'S CENTER UPDATE: Zora and Mary Ellen met with Marshall Breeding and Barbara Clark and Linda Manning from the Women's Center to begin preparations for integration of the Women's Center collection into Acorn. LTT has to establish a new library with Sirsi; the Women's Center needs to increase their memory; Nancy Boggess-Korekach needs to work with the Women's Center in setting up Acorn policies. After these things have been done, Zora will work with Barbara Clark on explaining cataloging standards for Acorn.
COLLECTION MANAGER/PROMPTCAT: Mary Ellen raised the question about re-searching provisional records for titles that have been ordered on CM and that come to us from PC. Currently, these records are re-searched by verifiers when received, and then searched again when sent to cataloging. (Zora said that these records are not always re-searched in cataloging.) There was concern about the cost of re-searching these records twice. Mary Ellen noted that if our profile with PC could be expanded, there would be fewer categories of material to separate, and workflow would be smoother and simpler. ACTION: Sylvia will talk with Flo about the possibility of increasing the types of cataloging records coming from PC.
BINDING FUNDS: Sue reported that she and some of her staff had met with Mary Ellen and Monica who helped them set up binding funds for tracking on Acorn. Sue noted that this is the only funding that was not being tracked on Acorn, and that libraries, especially Central and Science, were anxious to take advantage of this Sirsi function.
HELGUERA GIFTS: Mary Ellen reported that duplicates from the Helguera gift collection had been sold to Libros Latinos. We now have sizable credit with that company.
FUTURE RSIG MEETINGS: With retirement pending, Sylvia asked if anyone wished to volunteer to conduct RSIG meetings in the interim of filling her position. It was suggested that perhaps leadership could rotate during this time. ACTION: Sylvia asked for RSIG members to think about it, and send any comments/suggestions to her.
NEXT MEETING: Wed., Apr. 26, 1:30, Baker
