9/20/00 RSIG Meeting
Attendees: Susan Bell, Nancy Boggess-Korkach, Zora Breeding, Sue Davis, Monica Sanchez, Mary Ellen Wilson and Roberta Winjum.
MUSIC CATALOGING :
Roberta announced that Flo would like the cataloging of music backlog of non-book material (scores, cd's, laser discs) to be outsourced. Flourish is the name of the company that Roberta has been in contact with, but they would not be able to start working on our material until summer 2001.
ACTION: cataloging will fill out a form supplied by Flourish and Roberta will contact them to get more specific details on this project.
There is a possibility that music cataloging could be outsourced for all material in the future; it is not likely that the new Music Library Director would do cataloging. Current material is being done by RS cataloging team.
PROMPTCAT FOR BLACKWELL BRITISH BOOKS :
Mary Ellen reported that Blackwell will add to the approval profile the British books, to start getting records just like we do for the US publications; this change shouldn't take too long (hopefully, a new profile is not necessary).
ACTION:On receipt of these british approvals, OS will barcode the books, edit the record (vol/copy), charge the books to Charlotte Lew and send them to her ; she will speed catalog them when possible and research the other ones to see if better records than the vendor records are available. Sue and Zora will collect statistics on this project.
COLLECTION MANAGER BOOKS:
Since last RSIG meeting, Zora and Mary Ellen had agreed that OS will send 60 books at a time to Yuh-Fen. Because of her training process, this system is not moving the books very fast. So Roberta and Linda Hand have been trained to finish this process. LC's are moving well, MC's will be sent to Yuh-Fen as they are ; this includes mc's from backlog and the new mc's just received. This process will be reviewed in the near future once backlog is all gone.
ORDER SERVICES WITHOUT MARY ELLEN:
Roberta will be involved in the hiring of a new verifier and any pressing issues that can't wait, while Mary Ellen is out.
UPDATE ON ROBERTA'S TRAINING:
Roberta reported that she has met with: RS team leaders, John Haar, Sherre Harrington, Bill Hook, Mary Beth Blalock and Brent Mai. The main point of her discussion was "the libraries are our customers". She also told them that she would like to continue to meet with them on a regular basis individually or as a group. Roberta also worked with Charlotte, in Preservation, Mary Ellen, Chris Waldrop (serials/periodicals) and Monica Sanchez (Collection Manager books) in OS.
ACTION: Roberta will set up meetings with : Larry Romans for Government Documents, Linda Tesar for GPO material, Law and Biomedical libraries because of the work that RS does on authorities support. She also said that she would like to meet with most of the catalogers, some OS receivers/verifiers and LTT members. Roberta will spend Tuesdays and Thursdays at the GLB office.
OCLC PUBLICATIONS:
Apparently we are not getting all the publications necessary. Roberta brought a list of all publications available.
ACTION: following is what we need and quantity of each one:
PROCUREMENT CARD:
Roberta reported that the procedure that Mary Ellen wrote up has been distributed to LMC group. They are reviewing it and will get back with Roberta with any comments.
EBSCO INVOICE LOADER:
Roberta reported that Dale, in LTT, is working on the loader. At same time, she is working with Ebsco on what needs to be done to automatically load the renewal invoice on Acorn.
MARCIVE CONTENTS:
Procedures have been added to the Web by Zora ; so far everything is working well. A small bug was discovered and it will be monitored (sometimes records get locked).
Meeting adjourned at 3:15.
Next meeting will be on October 11, 1:30 at GLB
