RE: Charge to the Technical Services Workflow Task Force

Thank-you for agreeing to serve on the Technical Services Workflow Task Force. Your charge is to analyze the entire workflow in Technical Services from start to finish and develop a recommended implementation and action plan for improvements toward our goals of speed, efficiency, and accuracy.

To this end, the task force members will analyze routine and non-routine work procedures and policies, consulting with other staff, teams, or division libraries as appropriate. By this date next year the task force will have completed a recommendation for improvements that will be reviewed by the Associate University Librarian for Resource Services and others as necessary. The responsibility for implementation of the plan will be assigned at a later date, and may be undertaken by this or another group. If the task force deems it appropriate, a reorganization of Technical Services may be a part of this plan.

A part of the analysis will naturally include space and location considerations as we look toward the future. However the task force must work within the reality of the existing space configuration and their recommendation should not hinge upon any major changes in physical location. Neither should the task force’s recommendation hinge upon any major enhancements to the existing budget.

As the task force investigates current procedures, some obvious needs for change may present themselves. These changes may be implemented at any point along the way, and do not need to wait for the final recommendation plan.
