TechForce Meeting, 2-12-03
Priority Flags:
Deferred one more week.
Review of Telecommuting
Policy,
In discussion with Jody
Combs, Roberta learned that some changes with some campus software might do
away with the need for the fixed IP address DSL lines for home computer access
to Vanderbilt. This will probably be completed during the summer. It would make
more sense to review the Telecommuting Policy at that time, so we will postpone
this discussion for now. Mary Ellen will update the current policy to indicate
our plan for a late summer review.
Connexion Update:
Roberta had also talked with
Jody about the timetable for release of Connexion. We wanted to know whether
LITS would be able to set it up for TS staff before the end of the year if it
is not available in a form we can use until Oct. Jody said this would fit well
with LITS’s schedule, and he felt it would be doable. He was concerned with
training for TS staff once the software is installed. We will pursue this. We
hope we will be able to make only one transition to Connexion, but if the
software isn’t acceptable for us by Oct., then we will proceed to install CatMe
in Oct. and migrate to Connexion later.
Trip to the Annex:
We will plan for Wed.
afternoon, Feb. 25. Roberta will let Peg know. We’ll come up with some
questions for her at our next meeting.
Budget Update:
Additional budget concerns
were discussed, but no final budget has been reached.
Mission Statement:
Mary Ellen will revise the
mission statement from Tech Services to Resource Services. Our statement of
goals from the annual report can be added to this document as well. We will
discuss the mission statement at the next meeting.
What’s Next for Task Forces?
With RIP’s completion of its
charge for now, and the Cataloging Task Force underway, we can probably
consider our next areas for focus and improvement of workflow. Some suggestions
for future task force areas include: Vendor Contracts for Subscriptions,
Binding Contract, EDI Testing, New Spine Labeling Methods, and Maintenance
Workflow. We will revisit these possibilities at a subsequent TechForce
meeting.
