Lecture Notes in Computer Science

and other Springer Verlag SSO titles

Receiving:

Upon receipt, the serial receiver should verify whether the piece is a part of a serial (and if so, receive there). Otherwise the serial receiver will add the following information to a workslip for each piece received and route for sso processing:

Verification:

1) Check the volume holdings for the series record to confirm that it has been updated to show receipt of the piece in hand.

2) Search ACORN for duplication:

Begin searching by doing title search. (Always do your searching from the information on the book's title page) If that is not successful, then do an author search and then, if nothing is found, try the ISBN.

If duplicate is kept, follow procedure for processing of copy 2's

3) If no record is found in Acorn, bring in a record via SmartPort. Be sure to select the record that is for the print edition, but that also includes an 856 field with the url for the online version of the title, if available. (WorkFlow Properties may be set to Create Copy when the provisional record is created in Acorn.) If the record does not include the url, do not speed catalog the title.

4) Insert XX before the Call Number. Remove oclc number from Title Key. Add 952 to record: "Paid on AAS5233" Check SAR for correct captioning, and edit caption if necessary.

5) BOOK MAY BE SPEED CATALOGED AT THIS POINT IF APPROPRIATE. (Refer to Speed Cataloging Procedure.) The fact that this record includes a non-book format should not exempt it from speed cataloging. (This exception applies only to Springer-Verlag series standing orders.)

IF SPEED CATALOGED, edit the bib record:

6) If item is not to be speed cataloged, add a 951 field indicating the cataloging status. Insert Acorn printout in the book if MC or flag as NC, as appropriate.

7) If a copy has not already been created, add a Copy to the record, and edit Item Record as follows:

For the book:

8) If the record is speed cataloged, also add a Copy for INTERNET library:

9) As a last step, check the url link to be sure that it works!

10) Barcode the piece, flag, and route.
