In case you have yet to encounter one, Playaways are little preloaded digital audio books. Larry ordered a lot of them for leisure Reading, and 30 or so have arrived. These are all we'll have for a while, as Larry wants to wait to see how users respond to them before investing more into them. They will be in locked individual cases when on the shelf, but even when not locked they are hard to open, especially if you try pulling from the center. It's easier to pull the case apart at either the top or bottom outside corner.
When cataloging them treat them as audio books for leisure. LOCAL PRACTICE is to treat these
as Sound recordings instead of Electronic resources. OLAC decided to treat these as GMD
[electronic resource] (see documentation link below). Our interim decision is to treat these
as GMD [sound recording] for now. 6/26/2008.
Playaways will
And please remember to remove the "+|e" from the 300 field since even though they come with ear buds and an extra battery, they won't have them when they circulate (the Media Center will provide rechargeable batteries & ear buds or earphones if users need them). Also in the 300 I've found mistakes in the |c: the closest size is 9 x 6 cm., not 8 x 5. I've also noticed that the 260 is often wrong or incomplete regarding the Playaway format. It should include this:
