Bound-With Procedures

The first item in the volume is the Parent. It will carry the real barcode for all of its babies.
Because the Parent's call number will be the only call number for all the babies, make sure it has the entire range for the volume.
[i.e.: If you have v.30, v.31, and v.32 of a series bound together, the call number of the Parent (which in the real world is v.30 of the series) should have v.30-32 as the caption.]

To link a Baby to the Parent:

1. Display the Baby on your screen. Delete the call/copy from the Baby using the Remove Item command. Do not check the remove title box. Say Y(es). Hit GO.
2. Then issue the Edit Item command with the following steps at the preliminary screen: tab down to the box that says copy and delete the 1. This will make the barcode disappear, but leave the call number. Now hit GO or enter
3. You are now in the edit item screen of the Baby. The first box should be the call number box. This will need to be a dummy call number. If it is already a Acorn-generated call number, fine. If not, you will want to make one up. To do this, start with XX then in parenteses put the control number without the a followed by period 1. For a baby with a control number a1623333, it would be XX(1623333.1). The important thing to remember is that only one call number is allowed for Bound Withs, and that is on the Parent.
4. Change the class scheme (next box) to AUTO.
5. Tab down to the Bound-with parent barcode box. Enter the real barcode found on the volume.
6. Do any other edits. Hit Go or enter.
