1) Reference materials:
Central:
As Central approvals are processed, the verifier should watch for titles that appear to be Reference materials - particularly for materials with "Encyclopedia", "Dictionary", "Handbook", or "Guide" in the title. Check the approval slip for these titles. If the slip indicates a reference readership or type of book that is "Encyclopedia", "Dictionary", "Handbook", or "Guide", the title should be housed in the Reference collection. Change both the LOCATION and the FUND to Reference, and notify the Reference bibliographer that the change has been made (by e-mail).Other libraries:
As the above materials are discovered for the other libraries, check with the appropriate bibliographer to confirm whether they want the material housed in their Reference collection.
2) Leisure Reading Collection:
When titles are received for Central on approval that are duplicates of titles in the Leisure Reading Collection, the approval copy should be processed for the Stacks. The approval copy should be added to the LRC record UNLESS the Leisure Reading copy is a Brodart/ McNaughton book. See McNaughton Adult Book Plan procedure for instructions on how to identify these records. (We do not add to these records as the McNaughton books are leased and will ultimately be returned to McNaughton. The approval copy should remain on a separate record.)
3) History Profile/Central (The History Bibliographer is now reviewing his books. At this time, flag all History profile approvals with a 4100 flag and put on the review truck)
· Central has asked that all materials sent on the History Profile be funded according to LC classification code.
- IF these are changed to Central-General, confirm with Mary Beth Blalock before adding the books to the collection. However, if the title is classed in "G", simply fund to Central - 9000, and process (no need to check).
- IF these are changed to Anthropology or Sociology, confirm with subject bibliographer before adding the books to the collection. (Effective January 2007, "E78-E99" in both the History and Anthropology profiles have been changed to forms.)
- IF the subject area is History of Science, confirm with the appropriate Science bibliographer before adding to the Science collection. (Effective January 2007, "Science & Technology History Division" of the History profile has been changed to forms.)
4) COMM-STUDIES Profile/Central
Materials shipped against Central's COMM-STUDIES BK profile should be funded and assigned ITEM CAT 1's according to the following subjects:
- Communication Studies: 90011900 (19-COMM-ST) (LC Class PN 1990-1992)
- Theater: 90012000 (20-DRAMA) (LC Class PN 1560-1989)
- Film Studies: 90013200 (32-FILMBKS)(LC Class PN 1993-1999)
5) BL-BX classification
Effective 6/2007, do not automatically send these materials to Divinity. Check with Divinity to verify whether they want for their collection. If not, the book should be returned.
Books classed in BL-BX received on Central's approval plan should be funded and sent to Divinity, with the exception of BL 300-325 (Mythology) (see above);mew
6) Law/Biomedical
If a title is received on approval that duplicates Law or Biomedical, check with the bibliographer before adding to the collection.
