GENERAL PRE-SORTING
a. Sort by library
b. Sort out book sets and classed together series for further record and shelf
checks
c. Library preferences:
a. Science -Copicover
b. Arts - Custom
c. Reference - Custom
ECONOMY(Binding method which uses lightweight buckram)
Selection Criteria:
a. Covers in poor, fair or good condition
b. Size of textblock is small, thin -no thicker than ½" (possibly
¾"-1" if paper is very lightweight)
c. No foldouts or pockets
d. Paper can be in poor, fair or good condition, but not brittle
e. If not title page, bind in covers
f. Covers maybe mounted or bound in
COPI-COVER (Binding using color scan of original cover/re-placement for mylar)
Selection Criteria:
a. Paper or hardback books that require having the cover saved
b. Minor flaws may be edited out of covers
c. Size of textblock no bigger than 10½"x 13½"
d. Lightweight to Medium paper
e. No inside cover information
f. No foldouts or pockets
g. Paper in any condition, but not brittle
CUSTOM (Stronger than economy binding methods; more options; buckram cover material)
Selection Criteria:
a. Covers may be in any condition
b. Size of textblock does not matter
c. Can handle all weights of paper, including heavy, gloss stock
d. Use when book contains foldouts or needs pocket
e. Paper can be in any condition, but not brittle
f. Use to retain sewing method of original textblock
PAMPHLET (Clear plastic front cover with board backing; item sewn in)
Selection Criteria:
a. Item is single signature, either stapled or sewn or very thin stack of individual
sheets
b. Paper can be any weight
c. Paper can be any condition, but not brittle
