Custom and Economy Monographs
1. Bindery patterns for monographs (books) are usually placed before the beginning
of each section of books on the cart. There will be two patterns for each book.
Take the stack of patterns and figure out where inputting started.
2. Compare the information on the paper bindery pattern to the information on
the book. Check bindery pattern for errors paying close attention to the Title
and Author fields. Foreign titles may have a printout folded inside the book.
Use the printout as an alternate (or additional) method for checking bindery
pattern against the book information
3. If information on the bindery pattern is correct, fold one of the bindery
patterns in half along the scored line. Then fold it again into thirds so that
the item number and B# (found near top of pattern) are visible.
4. Paperclip processing paperwork, barcodes and flags that came with the book
to the folded bindery
pattern. Make sure that item and B# is still visible and place inside one of
the small manila folders. Place the manila folder in one of the portable file
drawers.
5. For the first item of a particular B# make sure to identify the manila folder
with the correct B#. Do this by finding the B# on the top of the pattern. Example:
B024-5. The B shows the item is a monograph. The 024 represents the lot number
in the current shipment, and the -5 stands for the current fiscal year. Write
the B# on a Post-it note and attach note to front manila folder of lot.
6. Take the duplicate bindery pattern and fold it in half along the score line.
Place the duplicate pattern inside
the book so that the top of the pattern sticks slightly out of the top of the
book. Place the book back on the cart.
7. Repeat steps 1-6 with each book on truck.
8. Once all books for a B# have been checked, fill out the appropriate ICI-MAB
shipping label. Pack books in boxes and label each box.
9. After boxing books give the following information to Machelle::
a. B# and type of binding
c. Number of pieces
d. Number of boxes and/or packages used to box all books in that B#
10. Take files from the portable file box and file in the cabinet near Machelle's cubicle.
11. Repeat above steps with each B# on the book truck.
Mylar and Pamphlet Bind
1. Take mylar, copi-covers, or pamphlets from shelves and place on book truck.
2. Get a B# from Machelle and tell her which type of material you are preparing
for shipment.
3. Set the B# on the numerical stamp, and then set last two digits to 00. Stamp
a scrap piece of paper. If it shows the correct B# and 00 proceed to next step.
(Example: B246-5 should look like 246 00) If not, reset the stamp.
4. Take the first book from book truck. Check to make sure that the barcode
paper clipped to the book matches
the barcode on the back cover.
5. Then stamp the bottom right corner of the title page. It should show up on
the page as the B# and a 01.(Example: 246 01)
6. Next stamp a scrap piece of paper. This should also show up as the B# and
a 01. If not, then the
stamp needs resetting again.
7. Take all paperwork and the barcodes out of the book and paperclip to the
scrap of paper stamped 01.
8. Put the paper clipped information in small manila folder and file in portable
file box.
9. Repeat steps 1-8 for each book in the B#.
11. Make out ICI-MAB shipping labels and pack books in boxes. Attach labels
to boxes.
12. Give the following information to Machelle:
a. B# and type of binding
b. Number of pieces
c. Number of boxes and or packages
13. Take files from the portable file box and file in the cabinet near Machelle's cubicle.
