Back up Spine Labeling System in SIRSI WorkFlows

This labeling method can be used when the regular web-based system is down. Because SIRSI requires a separate template for each location, we are limited to plain Central (only CEN, not REF or ARTS) materials with this approach. Since this method involves more steps per label, it is not advisable to use this method for regular Marking except under emergency circumstances. We can modify labels of RUSH items for different libraries as necessary, but we must make sure to use correct holding codes locations based on the charts available on the TSweb pages. Print a string of labels for one row of books on a truck only. There are no barcodes on these labels to check against and match up with a book, so a longer string could cause mix ups.

1. Log into SIRSI WorkFlows client and open the CATALOGING module.

2. Verify that CENTRALLABEL is the default label template. (Under COMMON TASKS select LABEL DESIGNER option. If PROPERTY window opens, click OK. Highlight CENTRALLABEL and click DEFAULT button. If button is grayed out, then it is already the default. Click CLOSE.)

3. Under COMMON TASKS select CALL NUMBER AND ITEM MAINTENANCE. If you need an override, type in "KOOL".

4. Verify your default search index is set to ITEM ID and search type is EXACT. (If not, right click on CALL NUMBER AND ITEM MAINTENANCE, open PROPERTIES and change your settings under the DEFAULT tab. Also make sure you have checked the PRINT LABELS and PRINT PREVIEW LABELS options under the HELPER tab.)

5. Wand in your barcode.

6. Click on CALL NUMBER/ITEM tab in the bibliographic record.

7. Go to row of icons at top left of record and click on PRINT PREVIEW icon (the one the looks like a row of labels with a magnifying glass).

8a. If label is ready to print (CENTRAL spelled out is ok), click on PRINTER icon. Click OKAY in the printer window. Proceed to Step #9 to complete process.

OR

8b. If label is not ready to print and needs to be modified, click on MODIFY LABEL icon (looks like sheet of paper with pencil). In MODIFY LABEL window, highlight the first line that needs correction and click the MODIFY button on the right. You can now make changes to that line. Continue to highlight each line that needs correction and click the MODIFY button on the right to make changes to that line. When all corrections to the call number are made, click OK. Click on PRINTER icon. Click OKAY in the printer window.

9. Click on CLOSE button at bottom of LABEL PREVIEW window.

10. Click on RETURN TO SEARCH button at bottom of item window.

11. Repeat from Step #5 for each item.
