Patron RushMark Request(s)

1. Login into Outlook and go to RUSHMARK public folder.

2. Check RUSHMARK group mailbox at least three times daily.

3. Print out rush request(s).

4. Look for rush book(s) in marking and/or binding area. Check bibliographic record in Workflows to verify most likely location before searching.

5. Flag book(s) with gold patron request flag and insert printout of patron request.

6. Put on rush shelf in Alla's area for labeling (9:00am, 12:00 noon, 3:00pm). Or, if very urgent, label immediately.

7. Email reply to patron rush request with an estimated time of arrival at library's circulation desk. Copy appropriate circulation desk in email message.

8. If the item is for Central or Divinity, discharge and deliver directly to their circulation desk.

9. For any other library (except Music), discharge to In Transit, insert a Hand Deliver flag if needed, and take the following steps. If it is a bad day (cold, rainy, snowy, etc.) don't ask for a volunteer, just package for messengers.

Step 1. Send an email to Volunteer Walkers distribution list (in Library Address Book) to find a Cataloger who will walk the book to the destination library.

To: VOLUNTEER WALKERS

Subject: URGENT: (Library name) RUSH BOOK

Message: (Choose which message below is appropriate and fill in the library and time)

(a) Binding and Marking has a (Library Name) rush book that is needed at (Library Name) by (Time am/pm) today. The book is located in the Binding and Marking unit.

(b) Binding and Marking has a (Library Name) rush book that needs to be delivered by (Time am/pm) today.

Add to message: The book is located in the Binding and Marking unit.

Step 2. Wait about 30 minutes for a response from the Cataloger walker volunteers. If no one responds, package for the messengers. Label package with RUSH/PATRON REQUEST, initial and date.

Step 3. If delivery time will be significantly delayed from original promised time, alert patron requester and library circulation desk by email.

10. If the item is for the Music Library, prepare the item for the messenger, mark package RUSH/PATRON REQUEST, initial and date.

For more detailed information about the entire TS procedure, consult Requests submitted to TS Rush Mailboxes.

NOTE: Also use the Volunteer Walker steps procedure section when you receive patron request RUSH items from Cataloging and Order Services that contain Hand Deliver flags.
