Assisting Central Bibliographers with Collection Decisions in Repair Lab

1. After books have been sorted for repair, charge the books that need collection decisions to Book Repair. The Book Repair ID is 373782.

2. Sort the books according to the subject, and decide which bibliographer is responsible for making decisions for that subject.

3. Email the bibliographer with the title, call number, and circulation history information. Also provide a brief description of physical condition of the book and explain why the book should be replaced, withdrawn, or transferred to the Annex.

4. Bibliographers can make their decisions through emails, or they can stop by the lab for consultation. Offer assistance in person when necessary.

5. If the book is a volume from a set, remind the bibliographer to check the physical condition of the rest of the set, especially if (s)he decides to send the whole set to the Annex.

6. If the decision is made through email to replace or to withdraw, forward the email to Janet Thomason so she can take care of the withdrawal. Discharge the item and return it to Janet.

7. Make sure the decision slip is filled in and kept with the book.

8. Based on bibliographer’s decision, make a job ticket for the book in the Repair Database.

9. If bibliographers fail to stop by or answer email within two weeks of the notification, send a follow up email reminder. If still no response, make the decision for them.
