April 1, 2008 Technical Services Report

New Initiatives

Roberta Winjum is proud to announce that Technical Services has initiated a new customer service program with corporate sponsors.  The sponsors have kicked in with cash prizes (taxable income) and gifts.  SPC has agreed to select a TS staff member each week to receive the award, to announce it in the staff newsfeed, and to take the honoree out to lunch.  If the program is successful in TS, it may be implemented across the library system.  Roberta gives TechForce credit for coming up with the idea during a recent retreat.  The group developed the eligibility criteria based on dog show judging:

Statistics

Staff were extraordinarily productive this past month, but were too busy to record the actual numbers.  Order Services emptied out its mail room, including all the gift collections.  Cataloging emptied the backlog inventory from the Annex and cleaned off all their shelves.  And, Preservation removed the last trace of backlogs in repair, binding, and marking.  Please don't look in the GLB sub-basement.

E-Resources

The SFX KnowledgeBase was 1000% up to date and correct thanks to the hard work of Julie, Ann, and several other TS staff.  Please report any problems to the mailbox called YEAHWEKNOWITSBUSTED@vanderbiltliberry.edu

Zora, Mary Ellen, and Roberta have ordered batches of bibliographic records to be loaded for several new e-book collections.  These collections are Barbara Cartland Novels Online, Cooking Your Way Around the World, and Space Travel Diaries.

New online databases recently ordered by the Library include Sports for Couch Potatoes, Banking Regulations for FatCat Investors, and Healthy Lifestyles for Aging America.

Meetings

Staff attended gazillions of meetings, too numerous to mention.  But, rest assured that each and every meeting was vital.
