Effective October 1, 2006, the Central library is entering into an agreement with McNaughton (a division of Brodart) to lease pre-processed books for the Central Library's Leisure Reading Collection. In addition to a core collection of approximately 200 titles, the library can order another 10 titles per month. The Library may keep these books for as long as they continue to circulate.
The titles may be ordered on McNaughton's web site, and the titles will be delivered directly to the Central Library. They will be physically processed to include a spine label, pocket label, and a large bar code label that contains the eye-readable bar code and the Vanderbilt Library name and address. We have supplied Brodart with the range of bar code numbers to use.
In addition to the physical processing of the books, we will receive cataloging records for the titles from Brodart. OS will load the records into Acorn upon confirmation by Central of receipt of the books (they will send OS a copy of the packing list), and will go into the catalog as "on the shelf". To facilitate loading of the records and retrieval via report, a new holding code of CEN-LRCB has been created that will additionally give these records an Item Cat 2 of LEISURE. This Item Cat will ONLY be used for these McNaughton books. Records are loaded with a Date Cataloged of NEVER so that they will be processed through Marcive.
The Acorn records will not have individual order records attached. The blanket order for these materials will be paid under a2714103, order number RS184195, McNaughton Adult Book Plan [Blanket order]. These records should not be used for TS orders. See Criteria used to determine duplication.
Central library will be able to run reports, based on the Item Cat 2 and other factors, to determine when the materials should be withdrawn. Central Library will be responsible for the return of these materials to McNaughton.
OS will continue to order Leisure Reading Collection materials for the library through Ingram, for titles that Central prefers to own. These titles will NOT be given the Item Cat 2 of LEISURE.
