Levels of Priority

Overview

Level 1:

This group includes those materials that are of a very high priority to the libraries. This group consists of the following categories:

Patron Requests:

Patron Requests are defined as those materials where a patron has requested to be notified when they are available. They should be so designated by the bibliographer, by marking the box on the Purchase Request under "Notify requester when item is cataloged", or on the new online form by designating as "Patron Request". When this radio button checked, the requester's name must also be supplied. This category of processing also includes those materials that are requested for rush processing via any of the TS mailboxes. This category should be used exclusively for materials that are wanted for immediate checkout by the patron.

SuperRush (Leisure Reading Collection):

SuperRush is a special category of material, specifically designated for immediate delivery to Central's Leisure Reading Collection (see procedure).

Rush:

This category is for materials that are needed quickly, but that are not requested for immediate checkout by a specific patron. This category may include materials that are ordered by bibliographers for specific patrons, such as faculty members, who have not asked to be notified when the material is available. In this category, the name of the requester may be entered in the record without initiating a notification when the material is available (see Purchase Request Help).

Reserves:

This category is for materials specifically requested for the Reserve collection. At all points, the date of the class (Fall, 2004, etc.) should be noted so that appropriate priority may be assigned in Cataloging (particularly if class has not yet begun).

Date Sensitive Order:

This category is solely for items that must be ordered quickly but do not require priority processing upon receipt (books with Pre-Pub pricing, items reserved with a dealer, sale items, rare copies, etc.) Once the order is placed, the order and material will receive routine (Level 3) processing. If higher priority processing is required upon receipt, bibliographer should use Level 1 or Level 2 priority instead.

Level 2:

This group consists of those materials that are high priority to the Library, but are not needed as urgently as Level I. It includes, but is not strictly limited to:

Leisure Reading Collection (those not designated SuperRush)

Reference

ILL Direct Purchases

Any other materials designated as "Level 2"

Level 3:

This category consists of Routine/Standard materials not requiring priority processing.
