Lisa Shipman reported that the two nominees to be new members on SDCC were approved by Paul Gherman. The nominees were contacted, however both declined at this time, but stated they may be interested in the future. Lisa will speak with Paul Gherman about selecting 2 other nominees from the list of potential candiates.

Lisa reported that she is awaiting Paul Gherman's final approval on Technology Training survey. Suellen asked the Committee if 2 weeks would be adequate time for staff to complete the survey. The Committee agreed that 2 weeks was sufficient. Suellen proposed that the survey be available beginning 11/27/00 and concluding on 12/08/00. The Committee agreed. Lisa stated she would check with Paul to obtain final approval on the survey, then draft an e-mail to all Library staff (excluding Biomedical). Lisa said she would send Suellen her draft e-mail for review. It was decided that the e-mail will have a link directly to the survey and that the Staff Web page will also have a link.

Lisa reported that the SDCC sponsored Safe Zone training for Library staff occurred on 11/16/00. The Safe Zone Project at Vanderbilt was established to help promote a more positive campus climate for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning individuals. There were 11 staff members present and some staff members may be attending other training available on campus. Tom Berry from the Psychological & Counseling Center conducted the training and that it was very well receive by the attendees.

Mary Beth Blalock reported that the Information Alliance held its Fall conference on 11/17/00 at the University of Kentucky at Lexington. Mary Beth stated 12 staff members from the Jean and Alexander Heard Library attended. Mary Beth said many attendees were impressed with the way the presenter was able to teach the concepts but also focus on how to take those concepts back to the individual's work group. Mary Beth said the attendees were also able to tour UK's Young Library and the Fine Arts Library.

Mary Beth stated that it is University of Tennessee at Knoxville's turn to hold the next conference in the Spring 2001. She also reported that David Atkins from UT came off the Information Alliance planning committee, and was replaced by David (?) also from UT.

Gretchen asked about upcoming Brown Bags. Lisa asked the Committee for any suggestions or ideas for future sessions. The Committee discussed some ideas and Lisa asked the members to come to the next meeting with some more. The Committee agreed that they should come up with a schedule for the next several months.

The committee will meet again on December 12, 2000.
