March 2001 Meeting Summary
Committee members in attendance: Mary Beth Blalock, Rodger Coleman, Gretchen Dodge, Eileen Crawford, Julie Loder, Lisa Shipman (chair), Suellen Stringer-Hye, and Chris Waldrop.
The committee met twice in March, on the 6th and on the 20th. During both meetings, the main item on the agenda was a discussion of the proposal from the Training Coordinators. There are two plans in the proposal. Plan A, the deluxe model, was dismissed as unrealistic at this time due to budget constraints. Therefore, it was decided that the committee should pursue Plan B. In the proposal, Plan B is described as a peer-to-peer training program that fits the current available resources for training. It replaces the regularly scheduled computer training classes previously provided with staff initiated classes. Under the plan, any Library-staff who desire training will contact the Training Coordinator in their division, or indicate their need through a listserv or on a bulletin board. Suellen will then recruit the trainer and a library-wide announcement is made that a class is forming or an outside training opportunity is available. At this point, other staff can request to take part in this training opportunity.
All of the Training Coordinators were invited to the March 20 meeting to get their input on the proposal and answer questions from the committee. They are completely in support of Plan B. Lisa will formalize action to put the new model in place by working with the University Librarian and the Library Management Council.
