July 1998 Meetings Summary

Major projects during July were the Awards Program, technology training, the library Glossary, and core training lists.

Provost Burish approved all of the awards program proposal except the final award, a day off with pay. He felt it would set a potentially problematic precedent. The committee, at the suggestion of Paul and the LMC, decided to review the whole program, including considering folding it into the special merit program and develop a peer appreciation component.

The technology training program moved forward with divisional training coordinators being named, as well as systemwide trainers. For the fall semester the LTT will establish a schedule for training and provide the training. For the spring semester, divisional and systemwide trainers will participate in the training.

Copy for the Glossary was finalized and discussions continued on the core training. Other projects discussed were the Soaring to Excellence program and brown bag subject possibilities. Gayle Grantham joined the committee as the representative from Biomedical. Dale Manning filled the membership slot vacated by Sherre Harrington’s departure.
