Staff Development Coordinating Committee
August 1998 Meetings Summary
Technology Training
The Accidental Trainer manuals were received and training for
divisional trainers began. The Library Technology Team, who will present
technology training for the fall semester, worked on the schedule for fall. Several other offerings for technology training were found and will be listed on the Opportunities Board.
Information Alliance
Mary Beth announced that Vanderbilt will be joining the Information
Alliance with UTK and UK. The alliance will primarily be involved with
cooperative staff development and training. Selected members of the Staff
Development Committee will be part of the steering committee for the
alliance.
Awards Program
Discussion of the awards program continued. The committee decided to
recommend to Paul that the Special Merit Committee be expanded to include
Paul Gherman, two division directors, one exempt staff member,
one non-exempt, and Gail Workman. This recommendation is made since this
committee may be responsible for judging the Innovation and Creativity
Award, in addition to considering staff who are awarded the top acorn
award for a special merit salary increase.
The committee received videos on Excel and Word for review and possible
inclusion in the Resource Library. Future brown bags planned are a
discussion of storage facilities, a preservation workshop on mold and
insect infestations in libraries, and a discussion of the Special Merit
Program.
