Members of the Committee are: Laura Power (Chair), Mary Beth Blalock, Gayle Grantham, Dale Manning, Debra Quarles, Suellen Stringer-Hye and Gail Workman
The Committee met on April 6, 20, and 27.
Debra Quarles reported on the development of the calendar that the committee will use for planning events. It will incorporate library and campus events. There was a discussion about inputting information: what should be placed on the calendar, who should do the entering, etc. It was decided to use the same form as the Training Team calendar, but using a different color for Staff Development events.
Committee matters: several of the current members will be rotating off of the Staff Development Coordinating Committee on July 1. The Library Management Council will need to have a recommendation of staff that might be appointed to serve on the committee. The committee will need to form a slate of names for Paul Gherman's approval that then can be sent to the LMC. Several names were put forward. This discussion will be continued at future meetings.
Information Alliance Meeting: Mary Beth Blalock announced that the meeting will be held on May 7 but that there is still a need for participation in the planning process. The Alliance needs to define the nature of the organization. The agenda thus far: status update on Iris and a state-wide activities report. There will be a buffet luncheon provided by the University of Kentucky. No fees will be charged for this meeting. Vanderbilt attendees will need to provide their own transportation.
Suellen Stringer-Hye will expand training days to include some Friday sessions.
Peg Earheart sent in an addition to the Library Glossary.
Elaine Goleski will present "Speaking Effectively" at 2:00 on May 6.
Laura Power reported that a stress management program, available through the Dayani Center, is available for a charge of $130 per hour. The committee considered the fee to be high, so Laura will check with the Health Plus program to see what may be available.
Gayle Grantham reported that an EBL staff member, Phil Meckley, will be moderating/presenting a program title "How Could You Do That?", a bioethics education seminar on June 10.
Other program discussions: James Taylor will be giving a program on dealing with difficult people, Carol Dickerson will be asked to do a Brown Bag on electronic reserves, and a Brown Bag on supervising student employees was proposed.
