- JOURNAL
- Term used for journals, periodicals, and serials.
- JUL
- Joint University Libraries; the name of the library
system from 1941 until the merger of Peabody College and Vanderbilt
University on July 1, 1979.
- LAN
- Local Area Network; a group of PCs located in close proximity
to each other. Typically, these PCs share printers, directories, and files.
- LAW LIBRARY
- Alyne Queener Massey Law Library; a division of the
library system including materials to support legal research; housed in
the Vanderbilt Law School Building.
- LC
- (1) Library of Congress; (2) Classification scheme of library materials
developed by the Library of Congress using combinations of letters and
numbers to designate subjects, classes, or disciplines.
- LIGHT PEN
- Pencil-like wand attached to a computer terminal
used to read barcode labels.
- LMC
- Library Management Council; composed of the University Librarian, AULs, division
directors, personnel officer, budget officer, development officer, and assistant
to the University Librarian.
- LOOSELEAF SERVICES
- Volumes containing news, court opinions, or reference
material on special subjects, updated by regular supplements.
- LTT
- Library Technology Team (Resource Services).
- LUC
- Library Use Card; card used for access to libraries and for
borrowing privileges.
